How it Works

For NFT.NYC Culture Proof: submit a text with your wallet connected…

…and you will receive an NFT with your lines (2 lines, 64 characters each), and the 7 preceding participants’ texts. This will be in your OpenSea hidden tab within a few minutes.

You must use MetaMask. On mobile, in MetaMask, click the double square (pictured left, top right in the app) and scan the QR Code in the IRL space at NFT.NYC or Refraction Festival.

You can conversely click the three lines (pictured left, top left in the app) and open your MetaMask browser in the app, then type in the accompanying URL.

If using a computer, please use Chrome and MetaMask.

In the original NFT Culture Proof: 1 purchase or gift = 1 Culture Proof Token (CPT) = 1 Text Block = 1 NFT (“Culture”)

Basically: you buy a token, use it to join the conversation, and get an NFT of the most recently submitted texts – including your own.

  1. First, you buy a Culture Proof Token (CPT) from our website, which uses the Polygon Blockchain (Matic cryptocurrency). You can use the token at any time during the 32-day performance to submit a text-block.

For those of you who are new to buying NFTs, the first step is to set up a compatible wallet – we use MetaMask.

Then, get Matic on the Polygon Chain. That link gives you a few options and more descriptions, where you can either buy Matic directly on the right Chain with specialty services (least expensive option), or bridge Matic to Polygon after using the exchange of your choice (easiest option).

Make sure you have enough Matic for your purchase and gas. To be safe, at least 65 Matic per token you intend to buy.

You can buy as many CPTs as you like and are available, and each one you buy also gifts one back to the collective – and increases your probability of getting a free, air-dropped token yourself. (See #6 below.)
  2. Use your CPT to Submit a text-block. Your contribution (up to 128 characters – two lines of 64) will appear in the performance text stream in the order it was submitted, and live permanently on-chain, as associated with the project. Spacing, special characters, and emojis are all preserved.
  3. All Text Blocks submitted will generate NFTs (we call them “Cultures”) and be sent to their respective contributors’ wallets. These are described on the About the NFTs page.

Culture NFTs immediately compatible for sale on the secondary market via OpenSea on Polygon, and can even be mapped to Ethereum if you so choose (although gas costs may be high, given the amount of on-chain data being stored). Instructions for this are on our FAQ page.
  4. Reasons to save your CPTs and convert them to text-blocks at a later time might include: trying to get specific editions numbers, collecting NFTs from different days, filling up an entire NFT with your own words, collaborating with others in the stream, or other possibilities we have not yet thought of!
  5. 256 CPTs are available for purchase on day 1, and another 256 will be added every day. And with each purchase, a second token is given away. This means the maximum possible number of text-blocks and NFTs – if all tokens are purchased, gifted, and used – is 16,384
  6. When you purchase a CPT, your wallet is added to a drawing pool (welcome to the NFT Culture Proof collective!). And every time anyone purchases a CPT, a wallet address within that pool is randomly selected to receive a free, air-dropped / gifted token. The more CPTs you buy, the higher the probability you’ll get some freebees.

Give us your email address, and we will contact you if you receive a free token; otherwise, just keep an eye on your wallet.

Happy collaborating!
